How do you breathe together with someone in another city?
- Agree a moment. A phone call, a family chat, or a fixed time each week such as Sunday bedtime.
- Choose a rhythm. Simple is best for a group. Calm breathing (4 in, 6 out) has no holds; 4-7-8 suits bedtime.
- Share one pace. Counting out loud on a call drifts, because of the delay on the line. A shared timer that every device follows keeps everyone together.
- Start together and breathe for a few minutes.
- Say something after. A word, a thank you, or "again?"
If anyone feels faint or unwell, they should stop and breathe normally.
Why breathe with someone instead of on your own?
Mostly because it is a quiet way to share a few minutes with people you love. You do not have to find the right words. You only have to breathe.
The CDC says social connections are important to our mental and physical health. We know of no study on long-distance shared breathing itself, so we will not claim it does more than a breathing exercise alone. What it adds is the company.
How does Breathe together in CalmSpace.ai work?
Breathe together is built for exactly this:
- You host a session in the CalmSpace.ai iPhone app or web app and share a link. Up to 6 people can join.
- Invitees open the link in the app or in any browser, with no account.
- When the host presses Start, every device counts down and breathes from the same start time, wherever each person is. There is no video and no call.
- Five rhythms: Calm (4 in, 6 out), Resonant (5.5 in, 5.5 out), Sigh (in, a little more, long out), Box (4-4-4-4) and Sleep (4-7-8). Rounds last 1, 3, 5 or 10 minutes.
- Bliss can guide everyone with her voice, in sync on every device.
- After a round, people can react: 🙏 Thank you, 💛 Feeling calmer, or 🔁 Again? The host can choose "Breathe again" with the same people.
- You can invite by email from the session. The address is used once and not kept.
What is a weekly breathing circle?
A weekly circle is a Breathe together session that repeats: the same link every week, on a set day and time. It starts by itself, and you can add it to your calendar. You can keep up to 5 circles, for example family bedtime on Sunday, or friends in other cities on Wednesday lunchtime. It turns a one-off into a small ritual.
Which rhythm should a group choose?
For mixed ages, choose a rhythm without holds: Calm or Resonant. Holds, as in box breathing, can feel hard for some people. For a short reset before a busy evening, try the Sigh. For bedtime, Sleep (4-7-8), as part of a wind-down routine.
Try it with Bliss

Frequently asked questions
Do the people I invite need the app?
No. They can open the link in any browser, on a phone or a computer, and join with no account. Only the host needs a CalmSpace.ai account.
How many people can breathe together at once?
Up to 6 people in one Breathe together session, including the host.
Is Breathe together free?
Yes. Breathe together is part of the free plan in CalmSpace.ai.
Can we breathe together at the same time every week?
Yes. A weekly circle keeps the same link for a set day and time and starts by itself. You can have up to 5 circles.
Why not just count out loud on a video call?
Calls have a small delay, so people drift apart over a few minutes. In Breathe together every device follows one shared start time, so everyone stays in step.
